CAROL CRAWFORD SCULPTURE

Rachel Part I.

When I was in New York earlier this year, I went to my regular stone supplier in Manhattan, and it was there that I first saw this beautiful ‘egg’ of Italian alabaster.  At first I tried to resist, but after a sleepless night, I knew it was love at first sight, and she had to come back to Australia, no matter the difficulty in getting her there.  I had to put all ’sense’ and ’sensibility’ away, and just do it.  I wasn’t going to be held back by practicalities - like how was I going to get a 1000 pound boulder up to my first floor studio?  How does a stone like this get from mid town Manhattan to Sydney?

I have named the stone, Rachel, after my sister, and her journey to my studio will be recorded in my blog.
